Paradies drucken // printing paradise

"Was ist das Paradies und wo, oder wann, und warum stehen da eigentlich immer soviele Palmen rum? Die aufblasbare Palme ist ein Art "Instant Paradise", ein Hosentaschenparadies. Wo auch immer man sie aufbläst, verleiht sie ihrem Standort sofort paradiesisches Ansehen und verspricht Großartiges. Doch der Platz im Paradies ist begrenzt."

Habe ich mich erstmals an einem Reduktionsdruck versucht, d.h. anstatt für jede Farbe eine Druckplatte  einzeln zu schneiden, habe ich Platte 1 und 2 nach dem Drucken der ersten Schicht nochmal beschnitten. Also eine Platte für den Palmenstamm und eine kombinierte für das Blattgrün und die Insel. Wenn das Druckergebnis mißlungen wäre, hätte ich nochmal komplett von vorne anfangen müssen. Zu meiner eigenen Verwunderung aber ist die Palme ziemlich genau so geworden, wie ich mir sie vorgestellt habe. So gibt es nun nur 10 Exemplare und keine zweite Auflage. Zu sehen noch bis zum 17. What is paradise and where or when? And why are there always so many palm trees? The inflatable palm tree is a kind of "Instant paradise", a pocket paradise. Wherever you inflate it, it gives it's place an appearance like paradise and promises great things to come. But - space in paradise is limited. 

First time I made a reduction print, which means, instead of cutting one block for each colour separately, I have re-cut block 1 and 2. So, one block for the trunk and one combined block for the palm leaves and the island.   This meant, if anything would have gone wrong while printing, I'd have to start all over again. Actually, to my own surpise, everything worked out just as I imagined. There are only 10 prints available and naturally, there will be no reprint or second edition. The print is featured in the show Fine Selection at galerie merkle, Stuttgart until Jan. 17, 2015.
